Steve Darcis (ATP-77) opent het nieuwe seizoen op het ATP-toernooi van Doha (Qatar, $ 1 386 665). Onze landgenoot treedt als eerste reekshoofd aan in de kwalificaties.
De Qatar Exxonmobil Open weet traditioneel heel wat toppers te strikken om het nieuwe seizoen op gang te trekken. Binnen twee weken zullen onder meer tweevoudig winnaar Novak Djokovic (ATP-12), Dominic Thiem (ATP-5), Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (ATP-15), Tomas Berdych (ATP-19) en Pablo Carreño Busta (ATP-10) hun opwachting maken.
Ook Darcis zakt af naar Doha, al moet hij wel aantreden in de kwalificaties. ‘Shark’ is het eerste reekshoofd. Zijn tegenstander is nog niet bekend. Ook mooie namen als Stefanos Tsitsipas (ATP-91), Marcos Baghdatis (ATP-102) en Dustin Brown (ATP-125) proberen zich via de kwalificaties te plaatsen voor de hoofdtabel.
