Cori Gauff (WTA-110) staat voor het eerst in de de finale van een WTA-toernooi. In Linz (Oostenrijk, WTA International) strijdt ze zondag om de titel.
Gauff, nog altijd maar vijftien, schakelde eerder in het toernooi topreekshoofd Kiki Bertens (WTA-8) uit. In de halve finale stond ze tegenover de Duitse Andrea Petkovic (WTA-75). Lucky loser Gauff haalde het na anderhalf uur met 6-4 en 6-4. De Amerikaanse is de jongste WTA-finaliste sinds Nicole Vaidisova in 2004 in Tasjkent.

In de finale volgt een duel met Jelena Ostapenko (WTA-72). De Letse was met 1-6, 7-6 (5) en 7-5 net iets sterker dan Ekaterina Alexandrova (WTA-35). Ostapenko kan in Linz haar eerste titel veroveren sinds 2017, toen won ze ook Roland Garros.
