Het ATP-toernooi van Madrid (Spanje, ATP 1000) zit erop voor David Goffin (ATP-49). Onze landgenoot blesseerde zich in zijn eerste wedstrijd.
Goffin moest in de eerste ronde aan de bak tegen de Fransman Alexandre Muller (ATP-39). Goffin stond al snel 0-4 in het krijt in de eerste set, maar wist nog te milderen tot 3-6.
In de tweede set hadden beide spelers het lastig om hun opslagspelletjes te winnen. Goffin forceerde de beslissing op het eind en hing met 6-3 de bordjes opnieuw in evenwicht.
In het begin van de derde set blesseerde Goffin zich bij 0-1 15-0 toen hij naar het net spurtte. Hij blesseerde zich aan zijn voet en kon niet meer verder spelen. De ernst van zijn blessure is moment nog niet gekend.
